The Ramen Pot Book Club

Hi! I’m Chloe, and I’m running The Ramen Pot, A.K.A. College Students Book Club! As a college student myself, I made this club to break up the monotony of required class readings with books that are easy, fun, fast, (and of course, cheap). All majors and degree types are welcome. We will typically meet on the first Sunday of the month from 7:00-8:00pm (featuring snacks + some excellent discussion).

Our very first meeting is set for October 6th, where we will be discussing Shut Up You’re Pretty by Téa Mutonji! This collection of short stories, ranging from a Congolese woman contemplating her family traditions to a young woman’s decision to shave her head in an abortion clinic, interrogates identity and femininity with humor and pathos.

I know we’re all busy AF, so this club is more of a “come-when-you-can” type deal. Sign up below if you’re interested in attending this month’s discussion!

Hello! I’m Libby, the bookseller running the Reading Rainbows Book Club at Prologue Bookshop. This book club is a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to meet up with one another and share snacks and discussion. Our meetings will occur on the last Sunday of the month in the bookshop. I’ll be picking a variety of books from across all genres, and all the books chosen will be written by an LGBTQ+ author. We’ll be keeping this group limited to about 15-18 people.

During the month of September, we will be reading Real Queer America: LGBT Stories from Red States by Samantha Allen: Allen is a trans woman and former Mormon missionary, and this book chronicles the cross-country trip across the Deep South that she takes. Within each red state that she visits, she vows to find "something gay every day" in order to document the growing and vibrant LGBTQ+ communities that can be found in these typically not-so-LGBTQ+-friendly states

Book Club

Hello! I’m Libby, the bookseller from Prologue Bookshop running our LGBTQ+Allies Book Club! This book club is intended for LGBTQ+ individuals as well as allies of the LGBTQ+ community.  It is an extension of our Reading Rainbows Book Club, which is intended only for LGBTQ+ individuals. We’ll be reading the same books as the Reading Rainbows Book Club, which means we’ll only be reading books written by LGBTQ+ authors.  Our meetings will be every third Sunday of the month from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Snacks will be provided at all of our meetings, and you can always buy our book club books at Prologue Bookshop with a 20% off discount! We’ll be keeping this group limited to about 15-18 members.

For our October meeting, we’ll be reading Cantoras by Carolina de Robertis. This book is about five cantoras (women who “sing”) who find respite from the tyranny of the the 1977 Uruguayan government on a cape called Cabo Polonio. Each of them repeatedly returns to the safety of the cape over the years, both alone and with lovers, so that they can live out authentic lives.

Female Authors Book Club

Riley here! I'm hosting the FAB Club where we'll be reading books by women writers (across all genres and non-fiction). I hope to maintain a cozy, friendly vibe and I like making sure everyone gets a chance to give their thoughts each week, and have a respectful, considerate attitude toward sharing and listening.

Our October read is… Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado.

October’s meeting will occur on Oct. 13th (anyone else ready for Halloween season?).

Meetings will typically occur on the 2nd or 3rd Sunday of each month, from 4-6pm in the store (unless otherwise noted**). You can sign up for FAB Club newsletters below!
