Clock Dance by Anne Tyler
Recommendation from Marjorie P
What I love about Anne Tyler’s family fiction is how immediately her characters come into your life and often stay there for a bit even after the last page is turned. Clock Dance, Tyler’s 22nd novel, is no different. Fifty years pass from the beginning of the novel till its end and Willa Drake’s journey is never easy nor always under her control. As Willa painfully moves through her roles as daughter, wife, mother, and surrogate grandmother, seasoned Anne Tyler readers will recognize the spirit of hope that is always present in Tyler’s fiction. The quirky characters we meet once Willa arrives in Baltimore are quintessential Tyler and they are exactly what our heroine needs in order to finally feel a sense of belonging and a true sense of self.
