BOOK CLUBS AT PROLOGUE BOOKSHOP

We currently have five book clubs at Prologue Bookshop! Signups are currently open for four of them. Signups are required to join/attend meetings. Our book club books of the month will always be available at Prologue Bookshop for 20% off.

Note that even if this page does not frequently update, the book clubs are still meeting! Reach out to info@prologuebookshop.com with any questions.

Kiss and Spell Book Club

Led by Cat

This book club enjoys fantasy, romance, and fantasy-romance titles, exploring how the genres fit together to drive stories. With "romantasy" on the rise in popularity we will enjoy identifying popular tropes and how a book successfully uses or subverts them. How did New Adult Fantasy emerge as a genre to counter YA? Why is the genre dominated by female main characters? What makes a good magic system, and does it matter? We will aim to read books by a diverse selection of authors, with unique approaches to fantasy-romance. Most importantly, we'll have fun. Please note that selections will not shy away from adult content that is only suitable for readers 18+. This book club is led by Cat McAlpine Franz, who just really likes books.

We meet on the last Sunday of the month at 4pm.

Our next book is Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher.

Poetry Book Club

Led by Mandy

As the poet Keith Leonard says, "Everybody loves poetry, they just might not know it yet." Whether you're a longtime poetry lover or are newly curious about this at-times mysterious genre, this poetry book club is for you. We'll read poetry books by living poets from diverse backgrounds who are writing in a variety of styles. We'll read joyful poems, tearful poems, and everything in between. This is a safe, welcoming space where there's no such thing as a silly question. Our goal is to have fun and, through poetry, better understand the world and our place within it. This book club is led by Mandy, an Alabama-born, Palestinian-American writer who now calls Columbus, Ohio, home.

We meet on the first Sunday of the month at 6pm.

Our next book is Postcolonial Love Poem by Natalie Diaz.

Black and Loved Book Club

Led by Jonathan

The Black and Loved book club centers books by Black authors and those across the African diaspora. It was created with the goal of highlighting these authors, and offering a safe space to really dive into and discuss these books and the topics that they tackle. There is so much that has been written and is currently being written, so each months selection will vary in genre. We're looking forward to hearing what made you laugh, cry, and throw your book across the room- while most importantly, gaining an appreciation for the expansive group of Black authors that are out there. The Black and Loved Book Club is hosted by Jonathan, our Children's Bookseller.

We meet on the first Sunday of the month at 4pm.

Our next book: There's Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension by Hanif Abdurraqib.

Speculative Fiction Book Club

Led by Dan B

The Speculative Fiction Book Club focuses on the space between traditional genres, highlighting books that don't stick to the confines of a specific genre. Most of what we read will be titles that could reasonably be shelved in either Fantasy or Science Fiction, and in many cases other genres as well. I can't wait to explore them with you! This club is led by our owner, Dan B.

We meet on the second Sunday of the month at 4pm.
(in May, we are meeting the first Sunday at 2:30pm. in July, we are meeting the third Sunday at 4pm)

Our next book is River Mumma by Zalika Reid-Benta.

Reading Rainbows Book Club

Led by Libby

The Reading Rainbows is a safe space for LGBTQ+ folks to meet up with one another and share community and discussion. Our meetings occur on the last Sunday of the month in the bookshop. We read a variety of books from across all genres, all of which are written by LGBTQ+ authors. This group is limited to about 20-25 members and is run by former Prologue Bookshop bookseller Libby.

Our next book is These Letters End in Tears by Musih Tedji Xaviere.

The Reading Rainbows is currently full, and the waitlist is also full right now. Check back again soon!
